Gail Pellerin

Si Gail Pellerin ay nagsilbi bilang punong opisyal ng mga halalan sa Santa Cruz County mula 1993 hanggang sa kanyang pagreretiro noong Disyembre 2020. Bilang Klerk ng County, pinamahalaan ni Gail ang lahat ng halalan na isinagawa sa county at nagsilbi bilang Commissioner ng Civil Marriage. Si Gail ay may 35 taong karanasan sa serbisyo publiko – mahigit pitong taon na nagtatrabaho para sa Lehislatura ng Estado sa Sacramento, kabilang ang para sa isang opisina ng Asembleya na kumakatawan sa Morgan Hill, at 27 taong nagtatrabaho para sa mga tao ng Santa Cruz County. Noong Hunyo 2018, nahalal si Gail sa kanyang ika-4 na termino bilang County Clerk.  

 

Naglingkod si Gail bilang Presidente ng California Association of Clerks and Election Officials mula 2010 hanggang 2012 at nagsilbi bilang co-chair ng Secretary of State's Voting Accessibility Advisory Committee.  Siya ay nagtapos ng California Professional Programa ng Kredensyal ng Administrator ng Halalan at nagturo ng mga kursong kredensyal sa mga Botante na may Mga Espesyal na Pangangailangan at Badyet. Nagtapos din siya ng Leadership Santa Cruz County.

 

Sa kanyang kapasidad bilang County Clerk, si Gail ay palaging isang malakas na tagapagtaguyod para sa same-sex marriages at nakatanggap ng Hammer of Justice Award mula sa Santa Cruz County Chapter ng ACLU noong Agosto 2009 pati na rin ang mga proklamasyon mula sa Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors at City of Santa Cruz na pinarangalan ang kanyang paglilingkod sa komunidad kasama ang kanyang trabaho sa mga isyu sa pagkakapantay-pantay ng kasal.  Noong 2010, natanggap niya ang Kudos Award mula sa Santa Cruz County Commission on Disabilities, at noong 2020, natanggap ni Gail ang Lifetime (Legacy) Achievement Award mula sa Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce._cc5781c9de Commerce._cc57581c90-5781c9de. -3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_ Noong 2021, pinarangalan ni Assemblymember Mark Stone si Gail bilang Woman of the Year ng California Legislative Women's Caucus, na kinikilala ang mga kababaihan na gumagawa ng pambihirang pagbabago sa kanilang mga komunidad._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-f136-bb3b-f136 , pinarangalan si Gail para sa kanyang trabaho bilang isang 2022 Democracy Hero ng California Common Cause na nakipaglaban para sa mga karapatan sa pagboto, muling pagdistrito ng reporma, transparency ng gobyerno, at upang matiyak na kasama sa demokrasya ang lahat sa loob ng mahigit 50 taon.

Bilang Klerk ng Santa Cruz County, nakipagtulungan si Gail nang malapit sa opisina ng halalan ng Santa Clara County, nag-uugnay sa mga sentro ng pagboto, nagrerehistro ng mga bagong botante sa mga seremonya ng pagkamamamayan, nakikilahok sa mga kumperensya sa pangangasiwa ng halalan, at sa pinagsamang pagsisikap para sa mga malalayong botante na matatagpuan sa Summit sa pagitan ng dalawang county .  Parehong sistema ng pagboto ang ginagamit ng parehong departamento, kaya gumagana din sila bilang back-up sa isa't isa kung sakaling magkaroon ng outage o anumang iba pang isyu na pumipigil sa kakayahang pangasiwaan ang isang halalan.

Gail received the Hammer of Justice Award from the Santa Cruz County Chapter of the ACLU in 2009 as well as proclamations from the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors and City of Santa Cruz honoring her service to the community. In 2010, she received the Kudos Award from the Santa Cruz County Commission on Disabilities, and in 2020, Gail received the Lifetime (Legacy) Achievement Award from the Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce.  In 2021, Assemblymember Mark Stone honored Gail as a Woman of the Year by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus, recognizing women who are making an extraordinary difference in their communities.  In 2022, Gail was honored for her work as a 2022 Democracy Hero by California Common Cause who has been fighting for voting rights, redistricting reform, government transparency, and to ensure that democracy includes everyone for over 50 years.

 

Gail has served on the board of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and was involved with Girls Inc. and Women’s Educational Success at Cabrillo College. She participated in the process of creating the Cabrillo College Local Government Fellows program, to encourage first generation students to pursue an education that can lead to a career in local government and to provide scholarships and paid internships and mentorships.  She has also been active with Emily’s List, Breaking the Glass Ballot and WILDR (Women in Leadership for Diverse Representation), organizations dedicated to increasing the number of elected and appointed women in local, regional and state offices.  Gail was involved with the California Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Committee and Civitas Public Affairs to advocate for  the Election Infrastructure Initiative to provide for long-term, sustainable federal funding for local elections offices. Gail has been an outspoken advocate for suicide prevention awareness and mental health resources after her husband, Tom, died by suicide on November 19, 2018. 

 

Gail has a BS in Journalism from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.  Prior, Gail had worked for the State Legislature, as a campaign assistant to political campaigns, newspaper reporter and photographer, and community college instructor.

 

In her spare time, Gail enjoys going to the beach with her labradoodle Darwin and spending time with her two adult children Jacob and Emily.
